Bulldogs pull away from LeTourneau in fourth quarter



SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran used a 28-13 edge in the fourth quarter to pull away from LeTourneau University in a 76-62 non-conference victory Tuesday evening in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium.

TLU (2-1) won its second in a row. LeTourneau fell to 0-3.

Bulldog senior forward Kristen Lye scored 12 and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds. Lye hit six of her 10 shots and added two assists and two steals.

Fellow senior forward Savannah Hight chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

TLU held LeTourneau to 26.7 percent shooting in the fourth quarter and to 34.4 percent for the game.

The Bulldogs made 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) in the fourth. TLU went 9-for-12 from the foul line in the final period.

TLU trailed 35-31 at the break but out-scored LeTourneau 45-27 in the second half.

Senior guard Cierra Jordan, making her first start of the year, contributed 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Senior post Caitlin Rendon added nine points, four rebounds and two steals.

TLU held a 30-20 edge in points in the paint and a 17-7 advantage in second-chance points. The Bulldog bench out-scored LeTourneau's bench 24-8.

The Bulldogs return to action this weekend with games at Southwestern University (in Georgetown, Texas) against Concordia Texas (2 p.m. Saturday) and East Texas Baptist (2 p.m. Sunday).
