SAN ANTONIO -- Trinity defeated Texas Lutheran for the first time in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, snapping a four-game skid to the Bulldogs, in a 28-27 win Saturday at Trinity Football Stadium.

TLU, the three-time defending SCAC champion, dropped to 2-6 overall and to 2-2 in the SCAC.The Bulldogs have lost back-to-back league games after suffering their first-ever SCAC loss the previous Saturday at Southwestern. TLU was 11-0 in the SCAC before the consecutive losses.

Trinity improved to 4-4 overall and to 2-2 in the SCAC. The Tigers and Bulldogs split their 2016 meetings. TLU won 38-28 in Seguin on Oct. 8.

Trinity held TLU to 76 yards of total offense (14 rushing yards) in the second half and rallied from 20-7 deficit at halftime and from a 27-14 deficit late in the third quarter.

The Tigers scored at the start of the fourth quarter on a Justin Ventura pass to Rhodes Legg and took the lead in the fourth with a Davis King TD run at the 7:22 mark.

TLU's last four offensive drives produced three punts and an interception. The Bulldogs were pinned deep in their own territory with three minutes to play and were forced into a fourth-down conversion attempt. TLU's pass was intercepted, and Trinity ran out the clock.

Texas Lutheran racked up 295 yards of total offense in the first half, riding the arm of quarterback Zach Galindo, who threw for 247 yards through two quarters.

Galindo was 21-for-28 in the first half with touchdown strikes to Marquis Barrolle and to J.B. Brown.

The Galindo-to-Barrolle connection capped a five-play, 61-yard drive that started after the game's opening kickoff.

The TD catch for Barrolle was the senior running back's 32nd career touchdown as a Bulldog.

Brown put TLU up 14-7 in first quarter on a 15-yard strike from Galindo.

Senior kicker/punter Chadd Brown added field goals of 46 and 26 yards to cap TLU's first-half scoring. Brown's 46-yarder was one yard off his career long. The field goal Saturday was his longest of 2016.

Reggie Jackson gave TLU its only TD of the second half on a diving 10-yard catch at the 5:53 mark of the third quarter. The Bulldogs led 27-14 at that point.

Galindo finished the day 29-for-42 with three touchdowns, an interception and 309 passing yards. Galindo had just 62 passing yards in the second half. He was sacked three times.
