Kouremetis' career-high 38 leads Bulldogs past Austin College, 96-93

SEGUIN, Texas -- Jordan Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) scored a career-high 38 to lead the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 96-93 home win Saturday against Austin College.

Kouremetis, a junior shooting guard, made eight of his nine three-point attempts and went 11-for-16 from the floor. He was 8-for-9 at the free throw line.

TLU, the defending SCAC champions, moved to 3-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Bulldogs have won all three conference games at home and by a combined score of eight points. The Bulldogs defeated Southwestern in overtime by four, edged Dallas on Friday by one, and defeated Austin by three.

TLU is 5-1 this year in games decided by five points or less.

Austin College fell to 10-3 overall and to 0-3 in the SCAC.

Kouremetis made eight of TLU's 12 three-pointers. The Bulldogs went 12-for-20 (60 percent) from beyond the arc. Overall from the field, the Bulldogs shot 41.9 percent.

Kouremetis eclipsed his prior career best for points by 10. He had 28 against Colorado College on Jan. 18, 2014. He set a new individual high for three-pointers made and came within two three-pointers of the TLU single-game record of 10, set by Jerald Reiner in a game against Southern Nazarene during the 1993-94 season.

Junior point guard Sterling Holmes (San Antonio/Antonian) added 23 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs. He made three of his four three-point attempts.

Zach Behr (Temple/Temple) contributed 14 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. TLU out-rebounded Austin by 10, 53-43.

Alan Sullivan scored 36 to lead the Kangaroos, who dropped their third straight after opening the season 10-0. Sullivan led five Kangaroos into double figures. Andres Rivera chipped in 19 points, and Jeremy Swisher had 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Austin turned the ball over just four times. TLU had 21 assists to eight turnovers.

TLU's next game is another SCAC matchup with the Trinity Tigers. The Bulldogs and Tigers meet in San Antonio next Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Trinity's Sams Gymnasium.
