Bulldogs erase 10-point, 2nd-half deficit to collect 71-66 win over Trinity

SAN ANTONIO -- A 15-0 run to start the second half propelled the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 71-66 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Friday night over Trinity University.

In Trinity's Sams Gymnasium, the Bulldogs rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit and held the Tigers scoreless for the first 6:22 of the second half.

Jordan Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) started the TLU comeback with a pair of three-pointers earlier in the final half.

Zach Behr (Temple/Temple) pushed the TLU lead to nine with a three-point play with 4:15 remaining.

The Bulldogs' lead eventually hit double digits. Trinity mounted a late comeback that cut the TLU lead to three with less than 15 seconds remaining. Kouremetis finished off the Bulldogs' win with a final two free throws.

TLU moved to 4-0 in the SCAC with its fourth consecutive conference win by five points or less. The five-point road win over the Tigers was TLU's largest margin of victory thus far in conference action.

The Bulldogs now sit at 12-3 overall. Trinity dropped to 5-9 overall and to 1-2 in the SCAC.

The win was TLU's third straight against Trinity.

Kouremetis led TLU with 18 points. Behr added 17 points and seven rebounds.

Bulldog point guard Sterling Holmes (San Antonio/Antonian) contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) posted nine points and seven rebounds.

TLU overcame a 32 percent shooting performance in the first half. The Tigers led 36-26 at the break.

TLU out-scored the Tigers 45-30 in the second half.

The Bulldogs held Trinity leading scorer A.J. Pulliam to 1-for-14 from the field. Pulliam finished with seven points, 11 rebounds and seven turnovers.

The Tigers shot 34.4 percent in the second half.

TLU faces another tough conference test Saturday with a 4 p.m. matchup in Kerrville, Texas against Schreiner University.
