SHREVEPORT, La. â€" Twenty-first ranked Texas Lutheran's nine-game win streak came to a close Sunday afternoon with a 87-82 conference road loss to Centenary College (La.).

TLU dropped to 16-4 overall and to 8-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Centenary improved to 11-9 overall and to 4-6 in the SCAC.

In Centenary's Gold Dome, the Bulldogs held a 12-point lead (28-16) with 4:47 to play in the first half.

But Centenary went on a 22-2 run to close out the first half and took a 38-30 lead into the break.

The Bulldogs went the final 8:35 of the first half without a made field goal.
Â
In the second half, TLU tied the game at 53 on a layup from
Sterling Holmes (San Antonio/Antonian) with 12:11 remaining in the game.

Holmes' layup capped a 13-0 run for the Bulldogs. In the spurt,
Jordan Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) scored six points with a three-pointer and three free throws.

Centenary countered with a quick 7-0 run to stretch the lead back to seven with 10:41 remaining. The Gents' run grew to 16-4 and their lead to 12 with a three-pointer from Treylan Matthews.

The Bulldogs made one final run at the Gents by cutting the lead to five with 1:06 to play, but Matthews converted a three-point play with 53 seconds on the clock and then added two late free throws to seal the victory.

Matthews led all scorers with 27. He hit eight of his 12 shots and three of his five three-pointers. He was a perfect 8-for-8 at the line.

Travion Kirkendoll registered 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Gents.

Kouremetis led TLU with 18 points. He was 5-for-18 from the floor and 3-for-11 from the three-point. He tallied three assists and three steals.

Holmes scored 16 and pulled down eight rebounds.
Paris Marquez (Humble/Atascocita) also grabbed eight rebounds, and he added 13 points.

Michael Sullivan (Frisco/Wakeland) recorded 11 points and three assists.

TLU was held to 34.3 percent shooting for the game. The Bulldogs were 10-for-33 (30.3 percent) from the three-point line.

Centenary made 39.1 percent of its shots and went 8-for-20 from the three-point line. In the second half, the Gents made four of their six three-point attempts and 17 of their 22 free throws.

TLU returns to Seguin and Memorial Gymnasium for conference games next Friday and Saturday against Trinity and Schreiner, respectively.
