Kouremetis, No. 23 Texas Lutheran hold off Colorado College 81-79

SEGUIN, Texas â€" Jordan Kouremetis and No. 23 Texas Lutheran remained unbeaten in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play and handed Colorado College its first SCAC loss of the season with an 81-79 Bulldog win.

TLU improved to 14-3 overall and to 6-0 in the SCAC. Colorado dropped to 11-6 overall and to 6-1 in the SCAC.
 
Friday in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium, Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) continued his red-hot, long-range shooting. The junior guard hit six three-pointers and scored a game-high 25. He added three rebounds.
 
Kouremetis finished 7-for-10 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
 
Each team led by as many as 10 in the first half, and the Bulldogs led by as many as eight in the second.
 
The game was tied at 69 with 6:01 remaining before TLU went on a 10-2 run to a take a 79-71 lead with only 3:34 to play.
 
In that 10-2 run, Zach Behr (Temple/Temple) and Paris Marquez (Humble/Atascocita) each hit threes, and Kouremetis and Behr each made jumpers.
 
Colorado closed within two on a James Lonergan lay-up with three seconds remaining. TLU inbounded the ball with a half-court pass to Behr, and time expired as Behr raced to the basket.
 
Matthew Gillette (Spring/Klein) added 14 points and five rebounds off the Bulldog bench. Marquez and Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) also hit double figures with 13 and 11, respectively.
 
Andrew Maddock led the Tigers with 20 points. He added four rebounds and three blocks. James Lonergan and John Hatch contributed 19 and 18 points, respectively. Lonergan grabbed 10 rebounds.
 
Colorado lost despite shooting 57.7 percent from the field for the game. The Tigers also hit 52.9 percent from the three-point line.
 
TLU took 29 three-pointers and made 12. TLU took 10 more shots than Colorado, made three more free throws and turned the ball over seven fewer times.
