SEGUIN â€" Texas Lutheran Baseball ran its SCAC winning streak to nine games with a doubleheader home sweep of Southwestern on Friday night, winning game one 6-3 and game two 8-4.
Â
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 29 in the latest ABCA Coaches Poll, improved their record to 24-9 overall and 12-2 in the SCAC, tops in the league. Southwestern dropped to 15-15 overall and 6-5 in the conference.
Â
In the first game, the Bulldogs received a complete-game effort from
Aaron Aleman and a couple of home runs to power their way to a 6-3 win.
Â
Aleman (Corpus Christi, Texas) tossed his fourth complete game of the year and third in SCAC play. The senior gave up seven hits and three runs, while striking out six. He improved to 7-2 with the win.
Â
Aleman got the offensive support he needed by way of the long ball.
Matt King (Barbers Hill, Texas) was the first to leave the yard, blasting a three-run shot down the right field line in the second inning. It was the first homer of King's career, as the senior showed how to begin the final regular-season home series of his career.
Â
Justin Law (Houston, Texas) followed King's homer with a solo shot in the third. It was the third home run of the season for Law and it made the score 6-1.
Â
The Bulldogs had built an early 2-0 lead after
Tony Gennusa (Kingwood, Texas) and King led the game off with back-to-back singles. Both would eventually score. The two players at the top of the TLU lineup finished the game 5-for-6 with four runs and three RBI.
Â
The second game did not feature any TLU home runs, but a six-run second inning proved to be the difference in the 8-4 win.
Â
Klaus Bohrmann (San Antonio, Texas) got the scoring going with an RBI double.
Lincoln Baylor (Schertz, Texas) followed up with a two-run double of his own. The Bulldogs would score those six runs on four hits.
Â
Baylor finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. He extended TLU's lead to 8-3 with an RBI single in the fifth.
Â
Thomas Harwell (Humble, Texas) earned the win on the mound, going seven innings and improving to 6-2. The senior got out of a second-inning jam after allowing the first two batters he faced to reach base. He finished with four runs (three earned) on eight hits. He struck out four.
Â
Dylan Drgac (Caldwell, Texas) may have stolen some of the headlines late in the game on the mound for TLU. The freshman entered in the eighth inning after
Hunter Roberts had loaded the bases with nobody out. Leading by 8-4, the Bulldogs needed Drgac to limit the damage and maintain the lead. Drgac did more than limit the damage though. The freshman induced a pop fly, a lineout and ended the inning with a strikeout, leaving the bases loaded without allowing a single run.
Â
He came back out in the ninth and retired the Pirates in order, earning the second save of his season.
Â
Texas Lutheran and Southwestern are scheduled to finish off their three-game series with a single game tomorrow. The start time for tomorrow's contest is yet to be determined, as bad weather is on the forecast for most of the day. Stay tuned to tlubulldogs.com for further updates regarding tomorrow's schedule.Â
