Baseball has win streak snapped with 10-2 loss to Our Lady of the Lake

SEGUIN â€" Texas Lutheran had its four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night, dropping a non-conference home game 10-2 against Our Lady of the Lake.

The Bulldogs were hurt by a six-run seventh inning, after only trailing 3-1 heading into the frame. All six of those runs were scored with two outs, with the final three runs coming unearned.

The loss snapped the aforementioned winning streak and dropped Texas Lutheran's record to 18-9 overall.

Before that seventh inning, the Bulldogs had done a good job keeping the game close after the Saints scored three runs in the opening two frames. The scoring started in the top of the first with OLLU scoring off a sacrifice fly. The Saints scored twice more in the second with an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk.

All three of those early runs were charged to Bulldog starter Logan Domino (San Antonio, Texas). The freshman, making his first career start, gave up three runs on five hits in one and 2/3 innings of work. He took the loss, dropping to 1-1 on the year.

Aaron Milone (Houston, Texas) came in for Domino in the second inning and pitched well, keeping the Bulldogs in the game. The freshman turned in three and 1/3 shutout innings, giving up just two hits and two walks.

The Bulldogs looked like they might scrap their way back into it when they got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Holden Bryant (Bullard, Texas) drove in a run while reaching base on a fielding error by the Saints shortstop Tyler Davis.

Bryant was the offensive leader for TLU, finishing with three of the Bulldogs' seven hits on the night. The sophomore went 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI.

After scoring one in the fifth, the Bulldogs threatened to tie the game in the sixth. Justin Law drew a one-out walk, then Riley Schaefer followed up with a double to put runners on second and third with just one out. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs couldn't bring either runner home.

The Bulldogs finished with seven hits and three errors, while the Saints tallied 11 hits and one error.

Texas Lutheran will step back into the conference grind this weekend for a three-game road series against Schreiner. The series will start with a single game at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2. The series will conclude with a doubleheader starting at noon Friday. The Bulldogs are currently tied with Centenary for second in the SCAC standings, and one game behind Southwestern in the loss column.
