SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's school-record softball win streak hit 17 with a pair of conference road victories Saturday against the Trinity Tigers.
The Bulldogs secured 8-2 and 5-2 wins over Trinity. TLU improved to 20-4 overall and to 12-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
TLU, the defending SCAC champion, raised its all-time SCAC softball record to 33-1.
The Bulldogs put together a 15-game win streak in 2014. The two wins Saturday put the 2015 Bulldogs in the record book by themselves after sharing the record with the 2014 team for less than 24 hours.
Ashley Jacobsen (Marion/Marion) and
Jennifer Gallagher (Missouri City/Elkins) quickly gave TLU a 2-0 lead in the Saturday opener. Jacobsen led off the game with a home run to left. Gallagher, the third batter in the inning, made it 2-0 with another homer to left.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the second behind an RBI triple from
Taylor Yancey (Magnolia/Magnolia West) and an RBI single from Jacobsen.

Grace Estes (Willis/Willis) brought home a pair of runs in the fourth with a two-RBI single to left. Yancey and
Heather Hummel (Houston/Stratford) scored on the play.

After Trinity produced a run in the fifth, the Bulldogs scored two more times. Estes doubled down the left-field line to score
Brayden Pinckard (Buda/Hays), and Gallagher hit a sacrifice fly to left to bring home Estes.

Junior right-hander
Taylor Grissom (Spring/Klein Collins) notched her 10
th win of the season and moved to 10-0. She allowed just the one run (earned) in her five innings of work.

The run snapped Grissom's scoreless inning streak at 30-1/3 innings and stopped her streak of not allowing an earned run at 37-1/3 innings.

In game two, Trinity took a 2-1 lead in the second inning (the only lead of the series for the Tigers) on a Sabrina Nieto two-run double.

The Bulldogs came right back in the next inning to tie the game with a solo home run by senior catcher
Hope Estes (Willis/Willis).

Estes then put the Bulldogs ahead for good with an RBI single that scored
Kirsten Whiteside (Belton/Belton) in the sixth.

The Bulldogs added two more runs, one in sixth and one in the seventh, on Trinity fielding errors.

Sophomore right-hander
Veny Pizana went the distance for TLU and allowed just three hits. She allowed her defense to do the bulk of the work. Pizana did not strike out a batter and issued just one walk.

Pizana improved to 7-2 overall. She coaxed the Tigers into 12 ground-outs and nine fly-outs.

TLU out-hit Trinity in game two 16-3.

In the four-game series, TLU out-scored the Tigers by a count of 30-6.

The Bulldogs return to Seguin for a 2 p.m. doubleheader Sunday against St. Olaf College (Minn.). The non-conference twin bill will be played at TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium â€" Morck Softball Field.
