TLU Softball delivers Bulldog wins 100, 101 for Head Coach Wade Wilson

SEGUIN, Texas â€" Texas Lutheran Softball delivered collegiate wins 100 and 101 to fourth-year head coach Wade Wilson as the Bulldogs completed a four-game conference series sweep of Schreiner with 6-3 and 2-1 victories.

The Bulldogs (16-4, 8-0 SCAC) trailed in both games Monday at TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium â€" Morck Softball Field.

Schreiner dropped to 3-15 overall and to 3-9 in the SCAC.

Wilson moved his collegiate record to 101-42 (.706). Wilson arrived at TLU for the 2012 softball season after successful high school stints at Brenham and Sinton. Wilson won 383 games in high school and now has 484 overall wins in his coaching career.

TLU fell behind 3-2 in the third inning of game one and needed a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh in game two to overcome a 1-0 deficit.

Grace Estes (Willis/Willis) hit a bases-loaded, game-tying single with one out in the seventh.

Megan Armistead (Montgomery/Montgomery) scampered home from third with the winning run on a wild pitch.

The Bulldogs' rally in the seventh started with a full-count, leadoff walk by Taylor Yancey (Magnolia/Magnolia West).

Heather Hummel (Houston/Stratford) and Armistead followed Yancey with infield bunt singles to load the bases.

Taylor Grissom, the reigning SCAC Pitcher of the Year, made her first relief appearance of 2015 and notched her eighth win of the season.

Grissom (8-0) relieved starter Amanda Lochte (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg) in the fourth and worked four innings. Grissom struck out two, walked two and surrendered just two hits.

TLU's breakthrough in the seventh made Schreiner starter Jess Vrana the tough-luck loser. The freshman right-hander from Jourdanton was two outs from a complete-game shutout of the defending SCAC champions.

Vrana dropped to 1-4 overall after allowing two runs, eight hits and five walks.

In the early game, Samantha Yenne (Lake Jackson/Brazoswood) pitched five innings of relief to even her season record at 2-2. Yenne struck out two, allowed four hits and gave up one run.

Hummel hit a solo home run in the early game. She drove in a pair of runs â€" with the solo blast and a sacrifice fly.

The Bulldogs stole eight bases in the first game. Ashley Jacobsen (Marion/Marion) recorded three of the steals. Brayden Pickard (Buda/Hays) added a pair.
