SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran University Softball was part of "Going Gold" during its game Monday against Calumet College-St. Joseph (Ind.). The Bulldogs and Crimson Wave joined together to help in the fight against childhood cancer, the number one disease killer of children.
ÂÂ
As part of Go4theGoal's Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer initiative, the Bulldogs wore special gold shoelaces. Gold is the color for pediatric cancer awareness. Calumet College also wore gold shoelaces during the doubleheader.
ÂÂ
"We have chosen to Lace Up to play for a greater good," said
Wade Wilson, Texas Lutheran Head Coach. "To be able to raise money for children fighting the horrible disease of cancer gives us that chance. To know that the money we raise will go to local kids fighting for their life is an honor."
ÂÂ
The money generated through TLU's lace sales, plus any additional donations received, will go to a local pediatric oncology unit in Texas. This marks the first season the Bulldogs and Go4theGoal have partnered together in the fight against childhood cancer.
ÂÂ
"It is always an honor having colleges get involved with our Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer Campaign," said Nate Mulberg, Go4theGoal Athletics Coordinator. "But it is even more special when programs like Texas Lutheran get involved. It has been a joy working with Coach Wilson and his program. We are so excited about our new partnership with Bulldog Softball and look forward to many more years of working together to assist those fighting pediatric cancer in Texas."
