Baseball opens SCAC play with 3-2 home win over Austin College

SEGUIN â€" Texas Lutheran opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-2 over Austin College on Friday night under the lights at Katt-Isbel Field.

The Bulldogs (12-6, 1-0 SCAC) received a strong start from Aaron Aleman (Corpus Christi, Texas) and got enough offense to get the conference win. The winning runs were scored in the sixth inning, with the winning run being scored when Justin Law crossed home plate on a wild pitch.

The Bulldogs tied it up in that same sixth inning when Zach Jacobs scored Keaton Bohrmann on an infield single to second base.

Aleman improved to 3-2 with the win, tossing 6 and 2/3 innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a pair of walks. The senior struck out eight, marking the third time this season he's struck out at least that many in an outing.

He did a good job of working around traffic all game, stranding seven Austin College baserunners in the first five innings. For the game Austin College left 11 on base.

Texas Lutheran finished with nine hits on the day, with Law (Houston, Texas) leading the way with a 3-for-4 night. The junior scored the game-winning run off that wild pitch in the sixth. All three of his hits were singles.

The Bulldogs' four through seven hitters finished 7-for-14 .

Austin College (2-5, 0-1 SCAC) was held to five hits, with Dylan Day (2-for-5) and James Arguello (2-for-4) racking up four of them. Arguello drove in both runs for the 'Roos, notching RBI singles in the third and fifth innings.

TLU got the scoring started in the first inning with Tony Gennusa (Kingwood, Texas) scoring on a Keaton Bohrmann (San Antonio, Texas) RBI groundout. Gennusa led the inning off with a single up the middle, then advanced to second on a Lincoln Baylor groundout. He made it to third on a passed ball. Gennusa finished 2-for-4.

The 'Roos evened the score in the top of the third when Arguello drove in Jeremy Halford with a single to right field. Halford's run was unearned after reaching on a fielding error.

The 'Roos took the lead in the fifth with another Arguello RBI single. The Bulldogs shut the 'Roos down the rest of the way though, limiting Austin College to just one hit after the fifth inning.

Dylan Drgac (Caldwell, Texas) closed the game out for TLU, earning his first save of his career. The freshman pitched the ninth inning and retired the 'Roos in order.

Britton Hawes (Salado, Texas) and Tyler Janota (Gonzales, Texas) also pitched well in relief of Aleman. Both pitchers tossed 2/3 of an inning. All three Bulldog relievers held Austin College without a hit.
