Texas Lutheran finishes off four-game softball series sweep of Austin College

SEGUIN, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs completed a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series sweep of Austin College with 8-0 and 10-2 wins Wednesday at Ed Kruse Stadium â€" Morck Softball Field.
 
Both games ended due to the eight-run rule. Game one was stopped after five innings, and game two finished in the sixth inning.
 
Taylor Grissom (Spring/Klein Collins) won her fifth start of the season and moved to 5-0 with the game-one victory. She did not allow a hit in three innings of work.
 
Brayden Pinckard (Buda/Hays) homered twice for the Bulldogs in the early game. Pinckard hit a pair of solo shots over the right-field fence. She was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
 
In game two, designated player Jennifer Gallagher (Missouri City/Elkins) drove in five and collected four hits, including three doubles. Gallagher was 4-for-4 and raised her season average to .457.
 
Lainey Hebert (Rogers/Rogers) brought the late game to a close with a bases-loaded, three-RBI double in the sixth.
 
Gallagher, Kirsten Whiteside (Belton/Belton), Grace Estes (Willis/Willis), and Hope Estes (Willis/Willis) each scored a pair of runs in the 10-2 win.
 
In the second game, Amanda Lochte (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg) tossed three innings and allowed one hit and one run (unearned) in picking up her first win of the season. Lochte (1-0) struck out two and did not walk a batter.
 
Grace Estes scored twice in the early game. Whiteside added two hits and a run, and Heather Hummel (Houston/Stratford) contributed two hits, a run and an RBI.
 
TLU out-scored Austin College 28-2 in the four conference games.
 
The Kangaroos, with a run in the first inning of the late game, snapped TLU's 28-inning scoreless streak against opposing offenses.
 
The Bulldogs, in their second year in the SCAC, moved their all-time SCAC record to 25-1.
 
TLU's next doubleheader, set for next Wednesday at Kruse Stadium, features the Concordia Texas Tornados. Game one of the non-conference twin bill starts at 1 p.m. TLU will have live video and live stats on tlubulldogs.com.
