TYLER, Texas â€" Texas Lutheran Baseball ran its season-opening winning streak to four games with a 3-1 win over Louisiana College, before wrapping up Friday with a 9-4 defeat at the hands of Texas-Tyler.
Â
The Friday split moved the Bulldogs' record to 4-1 on the year.
Â
The Bulldogs received a second consecutive strong outing from senior ace
Aaron Aleman (Corpus Christi, Texas) to pace them to the 3-1 win over Louisiana College. Aleman (2-0) tossed the complete-game gem, going the distance while striking out nine and allowing just four hits. He has opened the season flashing a propensity for striking out batters, as he's now struck out 19 hitters in two outings.
Â
TLU actually found itself behind against the Wildcats after they scored in the fourth inning off an RBI double.
Â
The Bulldogs would even the score when
Matt King (Barbers Hill, Texas) scored on a fielding error in the fifth inning. They would take the lead in the same inning when
Tony Gennusa (Kingwood, Texas) drove in
Holden Bryant (Bullard, Texas) with an RBI triple.
Â
Klaus Bohrmann (San Antonio, Texas) gave the Bulldogs an insurance run in the sixth inning with a solo home run. It was the first homer of the season for any TLU hitter.
Â
Those three runs were plenty for Aleman. After allowing that RBI double in the fourth, the senior retired the next 15 Louisiana College hitters and gave up just one hit the rest of the game.
Â
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs were done in by eight runs scored by Texas-Tyler between the third and fifth innings. Buddy McCoy got the scoring started with a three-run double in the third inning.
Â
The Bulldogs had the lead before that third inning. They scored in the first when
Justin Law scored Gennusa with a groundout to second base.
Â
Texas Lutheran fell behind 4-1 after four innings, but Law (Houston, Texas) kept things close with a two-run single in the fifth.
Â
Back-to-back two-run homers from Texas-Tyler in the bottom of the fifth opened up the game for good, putting the Patriots ahead 8-3.
Â
Thomas Harwell (Humble, Texas) got the start on the mount for the Bulldogs. The senior tossed four and 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits.
Â
The Bulldogs' stay in Tyler comes to an end tomorrow. They face off against LeTourneau and Texas-Tyler at noon and 7 p.m., respectively.Â
