TYLER, Texas -- Thirteenth-ranked University of Texas at Tyler raced to a 25-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and posted a 79-61 non-conference victory Tuesday over the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs.
At UT Tyler's Herrington Patriot Center, the Patriots led by as many as 27 in the second half while improving to 9-1 overall.
TLU dropped to 4-6 with the loss.
Makenzi May led UT Tyler with 14 points and eight rebounds. D'Onna Matthews added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
UT Tyler made 42.3 percent of its total shots and took advantage of 29 TLU turnovers.
Kristen Lye (San Antonio/Clark) led the Bulldogs with 14 points and six rebounds.
Cierra Jordan (Llano/Llano) added nine points and two rebounds.
TLU plays in the Herrington Patriot Center again Wednesday. The Bulldogs face LeTourneau University at noon in Tyler.
