TYLER, Texas -- The University of Texas at Tyler overcame a late four-point deficit and posted an 87-84 home win Tuesday over No. 25 Texas Lutheran.

At UT Tyler's Herrington Patriot Center, Joey Cuervo and Dadrian Taylor hit back-to-back three-pointers for the Patriots to turn the four-point deficit into a two-point lead with 1:07 to play.

Anthony Gonzales then made two free throws to push the UT Tyler lead to 84-80 with 41 seconds to play. The free throws capped an 8-0 Patriots' run that took 78 seconds.

After each team traded a free throw, Paris Marquez made a three for TLU to cut the UT Tyler lead down to one, at 85-84, but only 1.7 seconds remained on the game clock.

The Bulldogs fouled after the inbound pass, and Gonzales made two more free throws for the three-point lead.

TLU needed a three-point shot and needed to go the length of the floor to get it. The inbounds pass was stolen at the buzzer.

TLU dropped to 7-3 with the loss. UT Tyler improved to 6-3 with the win. The teams split the season series as each team won on its home court.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 15 in the first half and by eight, 42-34, at the half.

The Bulldogs made 12-of-26 three-pointers but allowed UT Tyler to hit 10 threes and go to the line 26 times. The Patriots went 23-for-26 at the free throw line. In the second half, UT Tyler made 19 of 20 free throws.

Zach Behr led TLU with 23 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Kouremetis and Sterling Holmes added 16 and 15 points, respectively. Matthew Gillette scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds.

DeMarcus Metcalf scored 23 and had seven rebounds for the Patriots. Gonzales added 20 points, eight assists and three steals.
