Hardin-Simmons holds off Texas Lutheran 72-66

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball fell at home 72-66 in a non-conference game Saturday against Hardin-Simmons University.

In TLU's Memorial Gymnasium, the Bulldogs shot 30 percent for the game one night after shooting a season-best 54.5 percent in a home win over Hendrix College (Ark.).

TLU dropped to 4-5 overall. HSU improved to 3-8. The teams split the season series. Each team won on the other's home floor.

The Cowgirls played the final 4:17 with only four players. HSU had only seven players available for action, and all seven played. Three fouled out.

HSU had a 10-point lead when its third player fouled out. TLU cut the lead down to two, at 66-64, with 1:51 remaining. Adelaide Wenzel connected on a short jumper in the lane.

After two HSU free throws, Wenzel again hit a short jumper to bring TLU back within two points with just over a minute to play.

Jasmine McClellan and Kourtney Holyfield each made a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to give the Cowgirls the winning margin.

Holyfield led HSU with 19. Heidi Schroeder and Kayla Brown scored 16 and 14, respectively, before fouling out.

Savannah Hight poured in 26 for TLU. The junior forward made 7-of-13 shots, 2-of-3 three-pointers, and 10-of-12 free throws. She added five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Taylor Dydalewicz, TLU's senior forward, added 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

TLU has 10 days off before traveling to Tyler, Texas for games with University of Texas at Tyler and LeTourneau on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30, respectively.
