IRVING, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior forward
Sioned Kirkpatrick scored a "golden goal" in the sixth minute of the first overtime to lift the Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over Austin College in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship quarterfinal.
Kirkpatrick's goal in the 96th minute came off her corner kick. Kirkpatrick's corner kick from the left corner curled into the upper right corner of the net.
For Kirkpatrick, it was her 12th goal of the season.
TLU improved to 12-4-2 overall and now faces Schreiner University in the SCAC semifinal, set for a 1:30 p.m. start Saturday at the University of Dallas' Crusader Field. TLU is 0-1-1 against Schreiner in 2015.
In Friday's win, junior forward
Claudia Trevino put TLU on the board first with a goal in the 62nd minute. She scored with an assist from freshman
Kyndall Ramirez. For Trevino, it was her second goal of the season.
Austin College answered with a goal in the 81st minute on a converted penalty kick from Cami Mavelian.
TLU out-shot Austin College 22-13 and had a 13-6 edge in shots on goal.
The Kangaroos fell to 3-14-2 overall.
