SEGUIN, Texas -- Point guard Sterling Holmes tallied 28 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists as the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs collected a 99-89 overtime home win Wednesday against Hardin-Simmons.

TLU won its second in a row and improved to 3-1 overall. HSU fell to 2-3 overall.

TLU trailed by two late in regulation before Zach Behr (Temple/Temple) made a driving layup with less than 25 seconds to play. The bucket tied the game at 81.

HSU's last shot in regulation did not go in and would not have counted since it came after the shot-clock buzzer, with about three seconds remaining on the game clock. The Bulldogs' half-court heave from Holmes glanced off the side of the rim as the horn sounded.

TLU out-scored HSU 18-8 in the overtime. The Bulldogs hit four of their five total shot in the OT. Two of the field goals were three-pointers.

Holmes, a junior from San Antonio (Antonian), went 8-for-21 from the field, 2-of-7 from the three-point line, and 10-of-12 from the foul line. He ended the night one assist shy of a triple-double.

TLU sophomore post Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds and scored 12.

Jordan Kouremetis and Behr chipped in 21 and 17, respectively. Kouremetis hit five three-pointers.

TLU out-rebounded HSU 57-44 and went to the free throw line 10 more times. TLU turned the ball over just 11 times.

Justin Jones led the Cowboys with 20 points and seven rebounds. Nathaniel Jack added nine points and 15 rebounds.

TLU has one day off before hosting the TLU Thanksgiving Classic. A total of four women's basketball games and four men's basketball games will be played in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium over Friday and Saturday.

Schreiner, East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau will be in town with their women and men's squads.

TLU Men's Basketball plays LeTourneau at 6 p.m. Friday and ETBU at 6 p.m. Saturday.
