SEGUIN â€" Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball snagged its first SCAC win of the season on Friday, defeating Centenary by a season-high 41 points, 97-56, inside Memorial Gymnasium.
Â
The Bulldogs scored the game's first bucket, a 3-pointer from
Karisa Cantu, 33 seconds into the action, and led the rest of the way.
Â
The win evened TLU's record at 6-6 and 1-1 in conference action. The Bulldogs have now won four of their last six, and will look to make it over .500 for the first time this season if they can get a win at home against Colorado College at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 10). Live video and live stats of that game can be caught via tlubulldogs.com.
Â
The Ladies dropped to 0-13 overall and 0-3 in the SCAC with the loss.
Â
The Bulldog offense was clicking on all cylinders Friday night, scoring a season-high 97 points on season-best 47 percent shooting from the field. Everything seemed to be working for TLU, including its outside game, where it made a season-high eight 3-pointers and shot a season-best 40 percent from behind the arc. The 97 total points was the most a TLU squad has scored against an NCAA Division III opponent since defeating Mississippi College 98-89 in double-overtime during the 2009-10 campaign.
Â
Seventeen different Bulldogs scored on the night, with three players finishing in double figures. TLU was led by
Savannah Hight (San Antonio, Texas) and her 14 points in just 10 minutes of action. She finished 6-of-8 from the field.
Â
Cantu (San Antonio, Texas) played a team-high 19 minutes and poured in 11 points, to go along with five assists and four rebounds. Fourteen different players played at least 10 minutes in the game.
Â
The other player to reach double-figure scoring was a new face for many Bulldog fans. Freshman
Olivia Marzullo (Kyle, Texas) came into the game having appeared in just one other contest this year, and was still looking for her first points in a Bulldog uniform. That changed on Friday, as the freshman notched 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Â
Three other Bulldogs also scored their first points of the season on Friday.
Sarah Flournoy (San Antonio, Texas) came off the bench and knocked down three 3-pointers on her way to nine points.
Tiffany Dziuk (Hobson, Texas) scored the first four points of her season, while
Eriana Garner (Round Rock, Texas) notched the first three points of her year.
