TYLER, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran women's soccer team scored an equalizing goal in the second half, but a quick answer from East Texas Baptist led to an eventual 2-1 loss for the Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.
Â
The loss was the Bulldogs' third straight to open the year as their record dropped to 0-3. The Tigers improved to 2-1 with the win.
Â
After heading to halftime trailing 1-0, the Bulldog offense was in much need of a goal, as their season-opening goalless drought had extended to two and a half games. In the 53rd minute,
Sioned Kirkpatrick promptly put an end to that drought, scoring an unassisted goal to pull the Bulldogs back even.
Â
The junior from San Antonio was Texas Lutheran's leading scorer last year. Her 17 goals were the fourth most in program history. After hitting the post in last Monday's contest against Concordia, the Bulldogs hope Friday's goal will open up the floodgates for Kirkpatrick and the rest of the Bulldog offense.
Â
Unfortunately for TLU, Kirkpatrick's goal would not keep the game tied very long. The Tigers answered back just two minutes later when Kia Jelley scored her second goal of the game in the 55th minute. In both goals, Jelley received an assist from Kendall Harris. The game's first goal came in the ninth minute of action.
Â
The Bulldogs had a few chances, and the stats would reflect that they controlled the game more than the Tigers. Texas Lutheran outshot East Texas Baptist 10-6 and recorded seven shots on goal compared to five for ETBU.
Â
Sophomore
Erin Rose (San Antonio, Texas) was the goalkeeper of record for the Bulldogs, playing the game's first 66 minutes and allowing the two goals. She made two saves on the afternoon. Freshman
Nichole Glazener (Pearland, Texas) played the rest of the game, making one save.
Â
The Bulldogs won't have to wait long for another chance to grab their first win of the year. They make the short trip to Longview, Texas to take on LeTourneau at 2 p.m. tomorrow. Live stats will be available via tlubulldogs.com.
