Lee reaches milestone in Volleyball's dominant sweep of Schreiner

GEORGETOWN, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran volleyball team opened up SCAC play with a convincing 3-0 sweep of Schreiner on Friday evening.

The win, TLU's ninth sweep of the year, extended its winning streak to four games. The Bulldogs have also won nine of their last 10 matches. The 25-19, 25-9, 25-13 sweep improved TLU's record to 12-2 and 1-0 in SCAC play.

During the match, Bulldog senior Megan Lee (Universal City, Texas) recorded her 2,000th career dig. Last year's SCAC Backrow Player of the Year now has 2,016 career digs, placing her second on TLU's all-time list and just 196 behind all-time leader Brandi Bradley.

Lee finished the match with a team-leading 17 digs to go along with four assists.

Offensively, the Bulldogs hit. 288 as a team. They were led by Kristin Fording (San Antonio, Texas) and her 12 kills (.524 hitting). Brette Threadill (Sinton, Texas) was the other Bulldog with double-digit kills, tallying 10.

Freshman Kelcie Ingram (Cibolo, Texas) led the team with 15 assists, marking the fifth time in the last six matches she's tallied at least 10 assists. Katie Darst (Euless, Texas) was right behind Ingram with 14 assists of her own.

The Bulldogs opened up the match by scoring the first three points on their way to a wire-to-wire first-set win. The big damage came during a 9-2 run midway through the set to give the Bulldogs a 15-6 lead. Fording chipped in with three kills during that run.

The second set started differently, with Schreiner jumping out to a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs quickly regained control though, battling to take an 11-7 lead. At that point, they unleashed a 14-2 run to finish the set.

The Bulldogs got out to their best start of the match in the third set, opening up an 8-1 lead to start things off. They coasted to a 25-13 win to finish the sweep.

Texas Lutheran will have a pair of stiff tests tomorrow to wrap up play in Georgetown. The Bulldogs will face off against No. 17-ranked Trinity at 10:30 a.m. before wrapping things up against Southwestern at 5 p.m. Both teams qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament last season.
