Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball drops pair of tough matches against No. 17 Trinity, Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran volleyball squad had its four-game winning streak snapped after falling to No. 17 Trinity and Southwestern on Saturday.

The Bulldogs lost both matches 3-1. The two losses dropped TLU's record to 11-4 on the year and 1-2 in SCAC play. Saturday marked the first time this season the Bulldogs have dropped two straight matches.

It looked like the Bulldogs had an upset on their mind at the outset of its battle against Trinity. The Bulldogs came out firing, winning the first set before dropping the next three in the 25-22, 19-25, 15-25, 16-25 loss.

Katie Darst (Euless, Texas) enjoyed one of her best performances of the season, finishing with her third double-double of the year. The senior setter tallied 31 assists and 11 digs, throwing in two blocks for good measure.

As a team, the Bulldogs were held to .087 hitting, the second-lowest hitting percentage of their season. On the other hand, Trinity hit. 262, the highest percentage an opponent has hit against the Bulldogs all year.

The Bulldogs blocked well against the Tigers, finishing with 9.5 total blocks, the second highest total on the year. Anna Keeling (Houston, Texas) led the team with five blocks. She also added six kills.

Sophomore Kristin Fording (San Antonio, Texas) led TLU with 15 kills against the Tigers. She hit .227 on the day.

Megan Lee (Universal City, Texas), fresh off her milestone 2,000th career dig yesterday, came up with 21 digs against Trinity.

The Bulldogs finished up their three-match SCAC pod against host-school Southwestern, another NCAA Tournament participant from last year.

Just as it was against Trinity, TLU got out to a strong start, taking the opening set 25-17. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the momentum would not carry over as they eventually fell 25-17, 19-25, 16-25, 28-30.

Darst tallied her second double-double of the day, recording a season-high 41 assists and 13 digs.

Keeling enjoyed a solid day against the Pirates, finishing with a season-high 11 kills and hitting team-high .360.

Fording continued her good work, as well. The sophomore tied her TLU career high with 19 kills on .194 hitting.

Lee was her usual consistent presence in the back, racking up 36 digs, just one shy of tying her season high.

Texas Lutheran will continue conference play on the road next weekend when it travels to Shreveport, La. and Centenary College for another SCAC pod. This time, the Bulldogs will match up against Centenary and Austin College on Saturday, Sept. 27, before facing No. 10 Colorado College and Dallas on Sunday, Sept. 28.
