Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer extends unbeaten streak to four with 1-0 shutout of Centenary

SEGUIN â€" Texas Lutheran Women's Soccer extended its unbeaten streak to four games and won its second SCAC game of the year with a 1-0 home shutout of Centenary on Friday evening.

The Bulldogs received a goal from Sioned Kirkpatrick (San Antonio, Texas) in the 39th minute, and made that score stand up with strong defense to improve to 2-0 in the SCAC. Overall, the Bulldogs improve to 3-3-1.

Kirkpatrick scored her fourth goal of the season and third in two games on Friday. The game-winning goal came after the junior had her initial shot saved by Centenary keeper Erica Coker. Kirkpatrick was able to corral the rebound and bury her second attempt. The goal was assisted by Karla Beltran (San Antonio, Texas), the second assist of her season.

Erin Rose (San Antonio, Texas) tallied her second shutout of the year on Friday. The sophomore made three saves. She, and the rest of the TLU defense, has turned up the pressure in conference play, now having gone two games without allowing a goal.

Texas Lutheran controlled the game throughout, taking 20 shots while holding Centenary to just six. The Bulldogs finished with six shots on target. Corner kicks, another sign of a team controlling play, were also tilted in the Bulldogs' direction, with TLU taking nine corners compared to three for Centenary.

The Bulldogs really put the pressure on in the first half, where they took 15 shots. They were inches away from perhaps a three-goal half as both Zoe Gulick and Marisol Ramos hit goalposts or crossbars with shot attempts.

Kirkpatrick led the team with five shots and three shots on goal. Taylor Vatuna (Cypress, Texas) added three shots of her own. Eleven Bulldogs notched at least one shot on the day.

Texas Lutheran will be back in action tomorrow in a non-conference tilt. Again the Bulldogs will be at Gustafson Field as they play host to Howard Payne, an old ASC rival, at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available via tlubulldogs.com.
