TLU Baseball completes three-game sweep of Centenary (La.) with 3-0, 13-3 wins



SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs collected 3-0 and 13-3 wins Saturday over Centenary (La.) to complete a three-game conference series sweep of the Gents.

The Bulldogs improved to 22-10 overall and to 9-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs also won 2-0 on Friday night and started the three-game series with 22 scoreless innings against the Gents.

Centenary dropped to 14-17 overall and to 7-5 in the SCAC.

The Bulldogs now hold sole possession of second place in the SCAC baseball standings. TLU entered the series trailing Centenary by a game in the standings.

In the early game Saturday, TLU junior right-hander Aaron Aleman (Corpus Christi/Incarnate Word Academy) pitched all seven innings and notched his sixth win of the season. Aleman (6-1) worked around nine hits and three walks.

The Bulldogs broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. All three runs were unearned. Derek Kanas (New Braunfels/Canyon) and Von Wendel (Austin/Anderson) each drove in runs.

In the late game, the Bulldogs and Gents were scoreless again until the sixth. TLU then erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth and seven more in the bottom of the seventh. The game was called in the seventh with the 10-run rule.

Bulldog senior catcher Danny Brauckman (Austin/McNeil) hit a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs in the seventh. Brauckman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI.

Christian DeBlanc (Kingwood/Kingwood) doubled twice and drove in two, and Keaton Bohrmann (San Antonio/Johnson) went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Tony Gennusa (Kingwood/Kingwood) and Klaus Bohrmann (San Antonio/Johnson) each scored a pair of runs.

Centenary used seven pitchers in the late game.

TLU used just one - senior right-hander Kellen McGriff. The Humble native improved to 4-1. He allowed two earned runs, six hits and one walk.

The Bulldogs go back to non-conference play for a Tuesday night game in Belton, Texas against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Game time in Belton is set for 7 p.m.
