Texas Lutheran takes 6-3 road loss against Mary Hardin-Baylor

BELTON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran stranded 14 base-runners and gave up three unearned runs in a 6-3 non-conference road loss Tuesday night to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

At UMHB's Red Murff Field, the Cru (18-9) ended TLU's four-game win streak. The Bulldogs fell to 22-11 overall. UMHB swept two games from TLU in 2014.

The Cru led 6-0 after four innings before surviving a TLU comeback bid that included three Bulldog runs in the top of the sixth and a bases-loaded situation in the ninth.

With the bases full in the ninth, TLU put the tying run at first and brought the go-ahead run to the plate. UMHB reliever Aaron Barteau worked out of the jam by getting called third strikes on the next two Bulldogs.

Barteau struck out three in the ninth and claimed his fourth save of the season. Gunner Vaught started for UMHB, went four innings and notched his first win of the season.

Cody Moore (0-1) took the loss for TLU. Moore (Houston/Cypress Falls) allowed two earned runs in two innings.

Thomas Harwell (Humble/Atascocita) pitched four innings of shutout baseball to keep the Bulldogs close. Harwell struck out five and walked two.

Tony Gennusa (Kingwood/Kingwood), Von Wendel (Austin/Anderson) and Zach Jacobs (Brenham/Brenham) each recorded RBI for the Bulldogs.

Jacobs and Danny Brauckman (Austin/McNeil) each collected a pair of hits.

The Bulldogs get back into Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday and Saturday with a three-game conference series at Trinity University in San Antonio.

Trinity (25-6) leads the SCAC with an 11-1 league record. The Bulldogs are second in the SCAC with a 9-3 mark.

First pitch Friday is set for 7 p.m. on the Trinity campus. The Saturday doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., also on the Trinity campus.

Trinity will have live video and live stats from www.trinitytigers.com for all three games.
