SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs received seven shutout innings from senior left-hander
Christian DeBlanc (Kingwood/Kingwood) and three RBI from junior shortstop
Zach Jacobs (Brenham/Brenham) in Tuesday's 5-1 non-conference win over the University of Houston at Victoria.
At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, DeBlanc yielded just five hits and two walks and added a strikeout against the Jaguars (17-23). DeBlanc improved to 2-1 and lowered his ERA to 1.99.
The Bulldogs improved to 23-14 with the non-conference win over the NAIA's Jaguars. TLU, a member of the NCAA Division III, snapped a four-game skid.
Jacobs delivered an RBI sacrifice fly in the Bulldogs' two-run second inning and belted a two-run double in the three-run sixth.
Derek Kanas (New Braunfels/Canyon) collected three hits in four at-bats and scored a pair of runs, and
Tyler Carollo (Houston/Waltrip) and
Danny Brauckman (Austin/McNeil) each drove in a run and scored a run.
Klaus Bohrmann (San Antonio/Johnson) reached base three times with a pair of walks and a single. He scored a run.
Thomas Harwell (Houston/Atoscocita) worked the final 1-1/3 innings and struck out two.
The Bulldogs host Schreiner University this Thursday and Friday in the final games of the 2014 season at Katt-Isbel Field. The Bulldogs and Mountaineers meet in a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series, which begins Thursday at 2 p.m. with a nine-inning game.
