Texas Lutheran goes to 4-1 in SCAC baseball with doubleheader sweep of Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs received quality pitching starts from Aaron Aleman and Dwayne Snider and timely home runs from Tony Gennusa and Keaton Bohrmann in a doubleheader sweep of Austin College on Friday.

At Austin College's Baker Field, TLU took wins of 2-1 and 4-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play against the Kangaroos.

The Bulldogs improved to 15-6 overall and to 4-1 in in the SCAC. Austin dropped to 2-14 overall and to 0-5 in the SCAC.

In game one, Aleman (Corpus Christi/Incarnate Word Academy) tossed a complete game and struck out nine in seven innings. He walked just one and allowed seven hits in improving to 5-1.

Aleman took the hill in the bottom of the seventh after Gennusa (Kingwood/Kingwood) gave TLU the lead on a solo home run in the top of the frame. Gennusa's homer was his second of the season.

Austin made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of one-out singles to put runners at first and third. Aleman ended the game by striking out the final two Kangaroos.

In game two, Keaton Bohrmann (San Antonio/Johnson) broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth with a two-run home run. Bohrmann's homer, his team-leading third of the season, gave starter Dwayne Snider a 3-1 lead.

Snider (New Caney/New Caney) worked seven strong innings, striking out four and walked two. He surrendered eight hits. Snider moved to 3-1 overall.

Blake Balazs (Austin/Westwood) worked the final 1-1/3 innings to collect his first save of the season. He struck out three and did not allow a hit.

TLU and Austin conclude the conference series on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start for the nine-inning game. The game again will be played at Austin's Baker Field in Sherman.
