SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball completed a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference sweep of Austin College with a 6-2 victory Saturday at Baker Field.
The Bulldogs improved to 16-6 overall and to 5-1 in the SCAC as senior pitcher
Kellen McGriff (Humble/Humble) moved to 3-0 and
Tony Gennusa (Kingwood/Kingwood) homered for the second straight day.
Austin College fell to 2-15 and to 0-6 in the SCAC. The Kangaroos dropped three non-conference games to TLU in Seguin on Feb. 21-22
before losing three this weekend in Sherman to the Bulldogs.
McGriff worked around 11 hits and three walks to allow only two earned runs in 6-1/3 innings.
Conner Capdau (Sugar Land/Lamar Consolidated) tossed the final 2-2/3 and surrendered just one hit and a walk. He struck out two.
Gennusa gave the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead in the fourth with a solo shot to right field. Gennusa's three home runs this season have come in the
last six games. He is tied for the team lead.
Christian DeBlanc (Kingwood/Kingwood) and
Danny Brauckman (Austin/McNeil) also registered RBI. DeBlanc and Brauckman each had a
pair of hits.
Tyler Carollo (Houston/Waltrip) collected three of TLU's 13 hits. Carrollo was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Klaus Bohrmann (San
Antonio/Johnson) went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Austin College made five errors in the field, and two of TLU's six runs were unearned.
TLU continues its road swing in North Texas with non-conference games at Hardin-Simmons and Texas Wesleyan.
TLU and HSU play a single, 9-inning game at 3 p.m. Monday in Abilene, Texas. The Bulldogs face TWU in Fort Worth, Texas at 2 p.m. Tuesday
and 2 p.m. Wednesday for nine-inning games.
The Bulldogs' next SCAC series is set for March 28-29 at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
