Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball shoots its way to third consecutive road win

IRVING, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran men's basketball shot better than 57 percent and got 23 points from Jordan Kouremetis in its 75-68 road win over Dallas on Friday night.

The win, TLU's third straight on the road, improved the Bulldogs to 8-12 overall and 3-7 in the SCAC. Dallas dropped to 9-11 overall and 3-7 in the SCAC.

The Texas Lutheran offense was humming on all cylinders on its way to 28-of-49 shooting (57.1 percent) from the field. The Bulldogs also shot 16-of-20 from the charity stripe.

The second half was especially productive for the TLU offense as it blazed its way to 59.1 percent field goal shooting in the final 20 minutes. The offense created plenty of easy looks in the second half and even got to the free throw line at a good clip, shooting 18 freebies after getting to the line just twice in the first half.

Kouremetis (San Antonio, Texas) was excellent for the Bulldogs, scoring a game-high 23 points, including 14 in the second half. He finished 9-of-16 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point land and a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe.

The Bulldogs are now 3-0 the last three times Kouremetis has scored at least 20 points. He's tallied more than 20 points in five of the last eight games.

As good as Kouremetis's second half was, Troy Griffith (San Antonio, Texas) was just as good in the first half, scoring 13 points on his way to a season-high 15 for the game.

Thomas Verm (Sealy, Texas) was the other Bulldog to reach double figures in scoring, tallying 11 points and pulling down a game-high eight rebounds.

One of the big difference makers came in the turnover battle. The Bulldogs turned it over just six times for the game, twice in the second half. Dallas, on the other hand, turned it over 12 times total. The Bulldogs did a great job of taking those 12 turnovers and converting them into points, outscoring Dallas 22-6 in points off turnovers.

The game was nip and tuck throughout with the largest advantage for either team turning out to be the seven-point difference in the final score.

Dallas hit the game's first shot, a 3-pointer, but that was the last time the Crusaders would lead until the closing second of the first half. After leading throughout the half, TLU fouled Ross Davidson with 0.7 seconds left in the half. The pair of Davidson free throws sent Dallas into the locker room with a one-point advantage.

The Bulldogs took back control in the second half, sprinting back out to a six-point advantage less than four minutes in. From there, the two teams traded buckets, but TLU managed to maintain a lead virtually throughout the entire half.

One of the keys for the Bulldogs came in the way they shut down Davidson, Dallas's leading scorer. After dropping 30 on the Bulldogs in an earlier showdown this season, Davidson was held to just nine points on 3-of-9 shooting.

Texas Lutheran will look to make it four straight road wins on Sunday when they travel north to take on Colorado College at 1 p.m. (CT).
