Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball's bid for four straight road wins falls just short in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. â€" Joshua Alderman had a chance to win the game at the buzzer, but his 3-pointer fell short as the Bulldogs' three-game road winning streak came to an end in a 70-69 loss to Colorado College Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs had a one-point lead with 31 seconds after Donte McGee knocked a pair of clutch free throws. The next possession though, Colorado College would retake the lead behind a Chris Lesnansky hook shot from six feet banked in.

The Bulldogs called a timeout with ball and nine seconds remaining. Head coach Tommy Jones drew up a play to get Alderman a look from three in the corner, but Colorado College closed out, forcing Alderman to leave the shot short.

The loss dropped Texas Lutheran's record to 8-13 overall and 3-8 in the SCAC while also snapping that aforementioned three-game road winning streak. The win improved Colorado College to 14-6 on the year and 7-4 in the SCAC.

It was fitting Lesnansky hit the game-winning shot for the Tigers as the junior dropped 30 in the game, almost half of Colorado College's 70 points. He and senior Ryan Milne combined for 51 of the 70 points.

The Bulldogs went toe-to-toe with the Tigers all game and actually outshot them from the field. TLU shot 52.1 percent (25-of-48) from the field while holding the Tigers to just 43.4 percent.

Perhaps the difference in the game was at the three-point line where the Bulldogs made 1-of-8 (12.5 percent). The Tigers weren't great from deep either, but they knocked down five 3-pointers.

The Bulldogs were balanced in the scoring department, with Garrett Wilkins (Austin, Texas) leading the way with 18 points. Fourteen of those points came in the second half, where he shot 5-of-10 from the field.

Four TLU players finished in double figures. Robert Watson Jr. (Corpus Christi, Texas) dropped 16, while McGee (Victoria, Texas) finished with 13. Troy Griffith was the other double-figure scoring, following up his season-high 15 points on Friday with 12 more Sunday.

The Tigers led the entire first half with the Bulldogs shooting just 39.1 percent from the field while Colorado College shot 42.9 percent. The Bulldog deficit was as large as 10 with 5:25 left in the first half, but they cut it to seven at the half.

The TLU defense came out ready in the second half, holding the Tigers scoreless for the first four minutes of the half as the Bulldogs scored seven straight points to tie the game at 35-35.

The Bulldogs would take their first lead of the game at the 14:41 mark of the second half on a Wilkins layup. The Tigers would retake the lead, stretching things back out to a five-point advantage at the 11:23 mark.

Once again though, the Bulldogs battled back, taking a 51-50 lead with 9:11 to go in the game. The two teams would trade leads several times over the next few minutes before the Bulldogs opened up a three-point lead, their largest of the game, with 2:10 left. Eventually, Colorado College would retake the lead before McGee's two free throws set up the game-ending sequence.
