TLU Women advance to SCAC semifinal with 85-59 win over Ladies

SAN ANTONIO -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs extended their school-record win streak to 12 games and advanced to the semifinal round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship with an 85-59 victory Friday over Centenary College (La.).

At Trinity University's Sams Gymnasium, the top-seeded Bulldogs started slowly against The Ladies, falling behind by seven after the first four minutes of play. But the Bulldogs took the lead for good with a three-pointer from Natalie Vella (Corpus Christi/Moody) at the 10-minute mark and were not threatened again.

The Bulldogs improved to 21-5 overall. The 21 wins for TLU are the second-most in program history. The Bulldogs can match the school record of 22 wins with a victory Saturday in the SCAC semifinal.

Centenary concluded its season at 0-24.

TLU will face the winner of the Austin College/Schreiner quarterfinal. The TLU semifinal is set for a 5 p.m. tip Saturday in Trinity's Sams Gymnasium.
