Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer's comeback falls short in 2-1 road loss to Dallas

IRVING, Texas â€" Kelly Lochte scored a late second-half goal to get a comeback started, but the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit in its 2-1 road loss to the University of Dallas on Sunday.

After falling behind 2-0, the Bulldogs tried to claw their way back into the game. Lochte (New Braunfels, Texas) gave her squad a chance after scoring her first goal of the season in the 78th minute. The junior got on the end of a cross from Sioned Kirkpatrick and headed it in for the score.

With time running out, the Bulldogs' Max Soto (Kyle, Texas) got off a shot, but it was saved by the Dallas keeper in the 82nd minute. That shot would prove to be the Bulldogs' last attempt.

The loss dropped Texas Lutheran's record to 4-7-1 overall and 3-3 in SCAC competition. Dallas improved to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

It didn't take long for Dallas to break into the scoring column. The game's first goal was scored in the eighth minute by Abigale Weisbrod.

The Crusaders clung to that 1-0 advantage late into the first half, but doubled their lead right before the halftime whistle. Alice Nelson scored in the 38th minute to put the Crusaders up 2-0.

Both teams found plenty of shots throughout the game, with the Bulldogs outshooting the Crusaders 16-14. They notched nine shots on goal compared to seven for Dallas.

Kirkpatrick (San Antonio, Texas) led the team with six shots and four shots on goal. The junior came close to scoring in the second half, notching three shots on goal in a three-minute span, but all three were saved.

Sunday marked the end of the first half of SCAC play. The conference slate will flip next week with Austin College and Dallas coming to Seguin. The Bulldogs will take on Austin College at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10 and Dallas at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
