SEGUIN â€" For the second time in a week, the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team defeated Austin College 1-0. On Friday, the Bulldogs completed the feat at home.
Â
The Friday-afternoon hero was sophomore
Maegan Idrogo (McAllen, Texas). After more than 70 minutes of scoreless soccer, Idrogo put the Bulldogs ahead with her second goal of the season in the 72nd minute.
Â
Idrogo put away the goal after a
Sioned Kirkpatrick shot was saved, but not controlled, by the Austin College keeper. The whole play was set up by a long through-ball from
Marisol Ramos. It was both Kirkpatrick's (San Antonio, Texas) and Ramos' (San Antonio, Texas) second assists of the season.
Â
The win improved the Bulldogs' record to 5-7-1 overall and 4-3 in the SCAC. The loss dropped Austin College to 6-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Â
The second-half score was well earned for Texas Lutheran after turning the tables for a dominant second half. TLU was outshot 7-2 in the opening 45 minutes, but came out of halftime and outshot the 'Roos 10-2 the rest of the way.
Â
Sophomore
Erin Rose (San Antonio, Texas) notched her fourth shutout of the season on Friday. She made three saves on the day while the 'Roos finished with nine total shots.
Â
Idrogo and Kirkpatrick led the Bulldogs with four shots apiece. Idrogo was a threat all day, throwing three shots on target. Kirkpatrick tallied one shot on goal.
Â
The Bulldogs will look to carry over the momentum from Friday into Sunday's home rematch against Dallas. Last week, the Crusaders got the better of the Bulldogs in a tight 2-1 contest. Kickoff at Gustafson Field is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday. Live video and live stats will be available via tlubulldogs.com.
