Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lee caps final home match in grand fashion, Volleyball splits on Sunday

SEGUIN â€" Megan Lee ended her TLU home career in historic fashion as the Texas Lutheran volleyball squad split the final SCAC doubleheader of the regular season on Sunday. The Bulldogs swept Centenary 3-0 before losing 3-2 to Dallas.

In the first match of the day, the Bulldogs cruised to a 25-15, 25-11, 25-17 sweep of the Ladies, controlling play throughout the match. In fact, the Bulldogs' largest deficit all match was just two points, when they trailed 7-5 early in the third frame.

The Bulldogs used the service game to control play, holding the Ladies to just a 41 percent side-out rate. On the flipside, the TLU offense was also strong, posting a 71 percent side-out percentage for the match. The biggest factor in the side-out battle came in the second set, when the Bulldogs held Centenary to just 31 percent.

Kelcie Ingram (Cibolo, Texas) played a key role in that domination. The freshman finished with four service aces in the match, with three coming in that second set. She was on serve for a crucial 5-0 run in that set to give the Bulldogs the advantage.

Ingram also enjoyed a strong performance from her setter position, leading the team with 18 assists. She also notched seven digs and two kills in a well-rounded effort.

The Bulldogs finished with .252 hitting on the match. Once again, it was the second set that served as the high-water mark for them, as they hit .361 in that frame. No Bulldogs got to double-digit kills, but Kristin Fording (San Antonio, Texas) led the team with nine (.350 hitting).

Lee (Universal City, Texas) was the only Bulldog to reach double-figure digs. The senior finished with 14 digs to go along with five assists.

The last match of the weekend proved to be an exciting one, with the Bulldogs and Crusaders battling into a fifth set. TLU ended up dropping the match 25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 11-15.

It was the final home match for all of TLU's six seniors, and Lee wasn't going to leave without making her mark, one more time, in the school record books. Her 52 digs was a career high for the senior, and was also the fourth-highest single-match mark in SCAC history. She now holds both the fourth and fifth spots on that list.

Digs were aplenty in the five-set thriller, with the Bulldogs finishing with a season-high 134 of them. Dallas wasn't far behind with 125 of its own. Jessie Koster's 43 digs tied her for seventh on the conference all-time list.

The fifth set was about as filled with momentum shifts as could be, with both teams trading huge runs. The Crusaders opened the fifth set with five straight points, but TLU answered right back with six straight points of its own to gain a 6-5 advantage. From there, both teams went back-and-forth, keeping the set tied at 11-11. That's when Dallas broke it open with a 4-0 closing run to end the match, capping it off with an ace.

The Bulldogs finished the match with .115 hitting, with three players finishing with double-digit kills. Anna Keeling (Houston, Texas) and Fording led the way with 14 kills apiece. Keeling was efficient from her middle blocker position, getting those 14 kills on .440 hitting.

Both Ingram and Darst tallied more than 20 assists, while also tallying double-doubles. Ingram reached 26 and 13 digs, while Darst capped off her TLU home career with 22 to go along with 14 digs.

While the Bulldogs will play no more home matches or conference contests, the regular season is not over. TLU will head out to Southwestern University on Friday, Oct. 31 for the Southwestern Boo Classic. The Bulldogs will face Millsaps on Friday, before closing against Texas-Tyler and Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday.
