SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball matched the second-best start in school history with a 73-59 home victory Saturday over Schreiner University.
In TLU's Memorial Gymnasium, the Bulldogs improved to 9-3 overall and won in their first-ever Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game.
Schreiner dropped to 5-7 overall and to 0-1 with the loss in its SCAC opener. TLU and Schreiner are in their first seasons in the SCAC after moving from the American Southwest Conference.
TLU's 9-3 start ties the 1997-98 and 1984-85 teams for the second-best start in school history. TLU's best start in women's basketball came in 1973-74 when it posted an 11-1 start through 12 games.
The Bulldogs won for a sixth straight time in 2013-14. TLU's last six-game win streak came during the 1984-85 season.

The Bulldogs hit the road for their next contest, a SCAC game against Trinity University. The Bulldogs and Tigers meet at 8 p.m. Friday at Trinity's Sams Gymnasium in San Antonio.
