SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs secured the university's first winning season in women's basketball since the 1998-99 season with a 75-50 victory Friday night over Centenary (La.) in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs (14-5, 6-2 SCAC) won for the fifth straight time and for the 11th time in the last 13 games. TLU improved to 8-1 at home.
The win over Centenary kept TLU in sole possession of second place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs sit a game behind Trinity, a 68-58 winner Friday over the University of Dallas.
Centenary dropped to 0-16 overall and to 0-7 in the SCAC.
The Ladies made just 27.4 percent of their total shots against TLU. Centenary was 4-for-18 on three-point attempts.
Sixteen different Bulldogs scored. Junior point guard
Karisa Cantu (San Antonio/MacArthur) led TLU in scoring with 15. She added four rebounds and four assists.
Freshman guard/forward
Savannah Hight (San Antonio/Brandeis) chipped in nine points, and forward
Kristen Lye (San Antonio/Clark) added eight points and four rebounds.
Rhonda Martin scored 15 and collected five rebounds for Centenary.
TLU led 48-24 at the half and by as many as 31 in the second half. The Bulldog bench out-scored the Centenary bench 59-11.
