Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Threadgill leads way in Volleyball's Saturday sweep

GEORGETOWN, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran volleyball team started off a crucial four-match weekend with a pair of conference sweeps Saturday over Centenary and Dallas on the campus of Southwestern.

The Bulldogs started the day with a 25-20, 25-11, 25-14 sweep over Centenary before capping off the day with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 win over Dallas. The pair of wins improves Texas Lutheran's record to 9-5 on the year and 3-2 in SCAC play.

One of the key players in the Bulldogs' very successful Saturday was outside hitter Brette Threadgill (Sinton, Texas). The sophomore was on top of her game all day and led the Bulldogs on offense in both matches.

In the weekend opener against Centenary, Threadgill racked up 14 kills on .367 hitting, making just three attack errors in the match. She was the only player to reach double digits in kills and those 14 kills were the most she's tallied since the second match of the season.

As a team, the Bulldogs were running on all cylinders on their way to a season-high .330 hitting percentage against Centenary.

The defense was working well too, holding Centenary to just .080 hitting as the Bulldogs notched 42 kills compared to 22 for the opposition.

Setters Manda Martin (Burnet, Texas) and Katie Darst (Euless, Texas) both had strong matches running the offense. Martin finished with 19 assists while Darst finished with 14.

Threadgill kept her hot start going in the second match against Dallas, once again leading the way with 11 kills on some efficient .333 hitting. She finished the weekend with 25 kills (.352 hitting) to go along with seven digs and two blocks.

Just like the first match, Martin and Darst did a good job splitting duties at the setter position, with Martin notching 19 assists and Darst chipping in with 15.

Megan Lee (Universal City, Texas) chipped in with 20 digs on the defensive end of things. As a team, the Bulldogs held Dallas to .128 hitting while hitting .297 themselves.

The competition only figures to get tougher on Sunday with the Bulldogs wrapping up the weekend with a tough match against Austin College before concluding against undefeated and No. 10-ranked Colorado College at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
