SEGUIN â€" The Texas Lutheran women's soccer program needed overtime, but eventually took care of Dallas 1-0 on Friday afternoon behind the strength of a strong defense and a dramatic goal by
Sioned Kirkpatrick.
Â
After battling to a 0-0 draw through 98 minutes, Kirkpatrick (San Antonio, Texas) gave the Bulldogs the win after putting a
Courtney Farmer cross into the back of the net. It was Kirkpatrick's conference-leading eighth goal of the season, but it couldn't have come without the efforts of Farmer (Austin, Texas), who made a great run with the ball up the sideline. She fended off a Dallas defender to get the cross in that set Kirkpatrick up with the finish.
Â
The win made it three out of four victories for TLU to start the SCAC season. The Bulldogs now sit at 5-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The loss dropped Dallas to 4-5 (1-2 SCAC) on the season.
Â
After dropping their first three games of the season, the Bulldogs have now won five of their last six contests.
Â
The game was halted at halftime for almost an hour and a half due to lightning in the area.
Â
The two teams were just about as even as could be throughout the game with each squad tallying 14 total shots. Five of those shots were on goal for Texas Lutheran compared to three for Dallas. The Bulldogs are now a perfect 5-0 when tallying double-digit shots.
Â
Kirkpatrick was active all day for the Bulldogs, finishing with a game-high seven shots. She would have found that eighth goal earlier in the match had a first-half shot that hit the post been just a few inches to the left.
Â
Freshman goalkeeper
Erin Rose (San Antonio, Texas) recorded her third shutout of the year, making three saves on the day.
Â
Texas Lutheran will have some time off before its next contest. The Bulldogs will look to continue their hot start to conference play next Friday, Oct. 4 with a road game at Centenary at 5 p.m.
