Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Huge first half fuels Women's Soccer's shutout of Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. â€" Sioned Kirkpatrick scored twice and added an assist to help the Texas Lutheran women's soccer squad shut out Centenary 4-0 on Friday night.

The win was the Bulldogs' fourth in five SCAC matches and runs their record to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in conference action. The loss dropped Centenary to 2-8-2 overall and 0-5 in the SCAC.

Kirkpatrick (San Antonio, Texas) didn't waste much time putting her team ahead, scoring in just the fifth minute off an assist from Claudia Trevino (San Antonio, Texas).

Kirkpatrick, a sophomore, would make it 2-0 just minutes later, scoring her team-leading 10th goal in the eighth minute. Once again, the assist came from Trevino. The two assists were the freshman's third and fourth of the season.

Friday marked the third time this season that Kirkpatrick has scored at least two goals. Her first goal, which turned out to be the game winner, also marked the third straight game she's tallied the game-winning score.

In the 15th minute, Trevino and Kirkpatrick switched roles, with Trevino scoring her first career goal off a Kirkpatrick assist. It was Kirkpatrick's team-leading fifth assist of the year.

The Bulldogs would cap off a great first half with a late goal by Taylor Vatuna (Cypress, Texas) in the 43rd minute to go into the locker room up 4-0.

The Bulldog defense held the fort down the rest of the match, holding Centenary to eight total shots and just one on goal. Goalkeeper Erin Rose (San Antonio, Texas) came away with the clean sheet, her fourth of the year. The freshman made one save on the night.

As a team, Texas Lutheran outshot Centenary 19-8 and tallied 13 total shots on goal. Kirkpatrick led the way with six shots, five of those on target.

Texas Lutheran will look to make it four straight wins as it stays out on the road for a contest against Austin College at noon on Sunday.
