Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Kirkpatrick scores late to help Women's Soccer to 3-2 win over Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas â€" Sioned Kirkpatrick scored the game winner late and Maegan Idrogo chipped in two goals of her own as the Texas Lutheran women's soccer squad came away with a 3-2 win on Sunday on the road against Southwestern.

After getting out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, the Bulldogs had to find one more goal to come away with the win after Southwestern battled back.

That goal came in the 80th minute when Kirkpatrick (San Antonio, Texas) drove a shot from midfield that found the back of the net and put the Bulldogs back on top for good.

Kirkpatrick, who came into the game as the Bulldogs' leading scorer and tied for the conference lead in goals, now has seven goals on the year. She's scored all seven of those goals over the last five games and has scored in four of those five contests.

With the win, Texas Lutheran improved to 4-4 (2-1 SCAC) on the year while grabbing its first road conference win of the season. Southwestern fell to 2-6 (1-1 SCAC).

In the first half, it didn't look like the Bulldogs would need Kirkpatrick's late-game heroics to seal a win after Idrogo (McAllen, Texas) came out of the gate on the attack, scoring two goals in the first 27 minutes of action.

The freshman scored the game's first goal in the 22nd minute after a shot by Krystel Wolfe was saved the Southwestern goalkeeper. The rebound bounced to Idrogo, who finished it for her sixth goal of the year. Wolfe (San Antonio, Texas) was credited with her second assist of the season.

Idrogo made it a two-goal advantage for the Bulldogs in the 27th minute. The goal came after Kirkpatrick gained possession of the ball and crossed it into the box. Idrogo did the rest, putting the Bulldogs up 2-0.

Idrogo has been on just as much of a goal-scoring tear recently as Kirkpatrick, having scored five goals over the last three matches and seven on the year.

After going into the locker room at halftime up two goals, the Bulldogs couldn't hold the Pirates at bay.

Southwestern scored less than two minutes into the second half with Allie Dillon putting the Pirates on the board. The equalizer would come off a set piece in the 72nd minute when Hannah Heil scored off a Kirsten Mazur free kick.

As expected in a game this close, shot distribution between the two teams was relatively even, with Southwestern holding a 17-12 advantage. The Bulldogs tallied seven shots on goal compared to eight for Southwestern.

Texas Lutheran will continue conference competition when it comes home to take on the University of Dallas at Gustafson Field at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.
