KERRVILLE, Texas â€" The Texas Lutheran volleyball team dropped a pair of SCAC contests Saturday, losing 3-0 to Southwestern and 3-1 to Trinity inside Edington Gym on the campus of Schreiner University.

The Bulldogs now sit at 7-5 (1-2 SCAC) on the year.

In the second match of the day, the Bulldogs came out fighting, winning the first set 25-18 against Trinity. They couldn't continue the momentum though, dropping the next three sets 14-25, 16-25, 19-25.

Trinity runs were what hurt Texas Lutheran in that match. A 7-0 run in the second set, a 9-1 run in the third set and an 8-0 run in the fourth were the difference makers.

The Bulldogs finished with .018 hitting against the Tigers (13-3, 3-0 SCAC) while Trinity hit .135.

One of the keys to the contest was at the net, where Trinity recorded 15 blocks compared to three for Texas Lutheran.

Individually, the Bulldogs were led by
Brette Threadgill (Sinton, Texas), who notched eight kills (-.028 hitting) to go along with five digs and one block.

Manda Martin (Burnet, Texas) led the team in assists with 15. She tallied a double-double against the Tigers with 12 digs.

Texas Lutheran dropped Saturday's first match 25-19, 25-12, 25-18 to Southwestern (10-5, 2-1 SCAC).

Once again, one of the big differences in the stat lines was Southwestern's effectiveness at net, recording 10 blocks compared to three for the Bulldogs.

On offense, TLU was held to a season-low -.035 hitting as a team. Southwestern finished with .142 hitting.

Martin tallied another double-double with a match-high 20 assists to go along with 12 digs.

Junior
Vanecia Spencer (Grandview, Texas) led the team with seven kills (.095 hitting) and chipped in with two blocks and a dig.

Texas Lutheran will have a week to prepare for its next set of SCAC matches. The Bulldogs will travel to Georgetown, Texas and the campus of Southwestern University for four conference battle on Sept. 28 and 29. The Bulldogs will take on Centenary, University of Dallas, Austin College and Colorado College over the weekend.
