SEGUIN â€" The Texas Lutheran women's soccer team used an excellent offensive attack to score five goals in its 5-3 home win over Huston-Tillotson on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs scored three goals in the first half and the first five goals of the match before Huston-Tillotson could answer.
Maegan Idrogo (McAllen, Texas) notched a hat trick while
Sioned Kirkpatrick (San Antonio, Texas) scored TLU's other two goals.
With the non-conference win, the Bulldogs evened their record to 3-3 (1-0 SCAC) on the season. The win was also their third in the last four matches.
The Bulldogs jump back into SCAC play next week when they travel to Trinity for a 6 p.m. kickoff on Friday, Sept. 20.
Kirkpatrick, a sophomore, put the Bulldogs on the board in the 14th minute of action after a pass from
Kelly Lochte opened her up. Kirkpatrick took the shot from inside the box and ripped it to the left of the Huston-Tillotson keeper.
Idrogo made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute and a
Claudia Trevino pass was deflected by Rams' goalkeeper Angelica Erazo. The deflection bounced to Idrogo's feet where the freshman finished for the score.
Kirkpatrick made it a three-goal advantage in the 34th minute. This time, the sophomore did the work herself, dribbling into the box and taking a shot from about 14 yards away that sailed past Erazo.
After not scoring in the first three matches of the season, Kirkpatrick has been on an absolute tear recently, scoring in each of the Bulldogs' last three games. In that span, she's tallied six goals and even added three assists for a total of 15 points.
Idrogo score two second-half goals to complete her hat-trick. Those two goals came just a minute apart and put the Bulldogs up 4-0.
Idrogo has been able to find the back of the net recently almost as often as Kirkpatrick, tallying five goals in the last three matches after going scoreless in the first three.
As a team, the Bulldogs' offense has been rolling lately, scoring 16 goals over the last four matches.
Up five goals, Texas Lutheran coach
Larry Schaffer was able to get some other players some time on the pitch, but gaining that experience came at a price with Huston-Tillotson able to score three second-half goals to tighten the final score, but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the win.
Both teams took 15 shots with Texas Lutheran tallying 10 shots on target compared to nine for Huston-Tillotson.
