Sioned Kirkpatrick assisted on two goals while scoring one of her own in the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team's 4-0 win at home against Schreiner on Friday afternoon.
Kirkpatrick's efforts helped lead the Bulldogs to a win in their inaugural SCAC matchup. The win also improved their record to 2-3 on the year and 1-0 in SCAC play.
The Bulldogs will jump back out of conference play for their next contest. They will take on Huston-Tillotson at 1 p.m. Sunday at home.
It was a dominating effort all-around for Texas Lutheran, outshooting Schreiner 30-4 on the day. The Bulldogs held Schreiner without a shot on goal all game while notching 12 themselves.
The scoring opened up in the 32nd minute when
Courtney Brooks received a clever back-heel pass from Kirkpatrick. The pass opened up Brooks (Adkins, Texas) into space where the senior finished the piece of play with a shot that beat Schreiner keeper Lizeth De La Torre to the bottom right corner.
The goal was Brooks' first of the season while the assist was Kirkpatricks' second.
The first half closed with the Bulldogs up 1-0, but Texas Lutheran had controlled the play, outshooting Schreiner 14-2 in the game's first 45 minutes.
The unrelenting Texas Lutheran pressure began to pay off in the second half with the Bulldogs opening up the game with three more goals in the span of just more than 12 minutes.
Just 10 minutes into the half, freshman
Krystel Wolfe (San Antonio, Texas) put the Bulldogs up 2-0 with her first career goal. The score came after Kirkpatrick sent a low cross into the box. Wolfe received the cross, took a shot that was saved by De La Torre before handling the rebound and finishing it.
In the 66th minute, Kirkpatrick got on the board with her fourth goal of the season. The goal was assisted by
Maegan Idrogo.
Idrogo finished the scoring in the 67th minute with her second goal of the year, this one coming off a
Miki Roberts assist. The goal was the first of the Bulldogs' season that Kirkpatrick did not either score or assist on.
Freshman goalkeeper
Erin Rose recorded her second career shutout. Friday's game was a keeper's best friend as Rose did not have to make a single save.
Twelve different Bulldogs recorded at least one shot on the day with Kirkpatrick leading the way with nine total shots. Brooks recorded four shots while sophomore
Kelly Lochte took three.
