SEGUIN, Texas -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor broke open a scoreless tie with two second-half goals and spoiled Texas Lutheran's home and season-opener Friday at Gustafson Field.
Kathryn Parker and Ashley Teague scored for UMHB within 10 minutes of each other in The Cru's 2-0 win.
Parker scored at the 58:11 mark, and Teague added her goal at the 66:25 mark.
Allison Porter and Maizey Cardy delivered assists.
UMHB (1-0) out-shot TLU 21-9 and led in shots on goal 9-4. TLU freshman keeper
Erin Rose (San Antonio/Madison) collected six saves.
Friday's match was the first non-conference soccer match between UMHB and TLU in 13 seasons. UMHB and TLU played together in the American Southwest Conference from 2000 to 2012.
TLU joined the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in July 2013. The Bulldogs play all of their collegiate sports in the SCAC.
TLU hits the road for its next three matches, all against members of the ASC. The Bulldogs face Concordia Texas at 2 p.m. Monday in Austin before playing LeTourneau and University of Texas at Tyler, respectively, next Friday and Saturday.
