Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer can't find offense in 1-0 loss to Southwestern

SEGUIN â€" A goal midway through the second half was the difference as the Texas Lutheran women's soccer squad lost 1-0 on a Sunday afternoon Senior Day to Southwestern.

With neither team able to find a goal through more than 70 minutes of action, the scoring drought was finally broken by Southwestern's Hayley Miesse, who put the Pirates on top with a goal in the 73rd minute.

The goal was scored after Lindsay Jakszta took a shot that was saved by Bulldog keeper Erin Rose. Unfortunately, the rebound squirted out in front of Rose, who couldn't get to it quick enough as Miesse beat her to the ball and finished with what turned out to be the game's only goal.

The Bulldogs got one shot on goal after falling behind, but that shot by Kelly Lochte was saved and the Pirates held on for the win.

The loss dropped Texas Lutheran to 9-7-1 on the year and 6-4-1 in SCAC competition. The Bulldogs are three points ahead of Austin College for third place with just one conference game remaining.

For the game, the Bulldogs were outshot 19-5 and 11-4 in shots on goal. One of the leaders offensively for Texas Lutheran was senior Courtney Farmer (Austin, Texas), who took two shots. Both of those shots were on goal.

Rose (San Antonio, Texas) was great in goal for the Bulldogs, making 10 saves on the day to keep the game close. It was the freshman's work in the first half that stood out the most as she racked up seven saves to keep the game scoreless.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the regular season finale on the road against SCAC-opponent Schreiner. With a win, the Bulldogs will clinch the third seed in the SCAC Women's Soccer Championship which will be hosted in Seguin.  Kickoff against Schreiner is set for 1 p.m.
