VICTORIA, Texas â€"
Sioned Kirkpatrick scored twice, including a dramatic late-game goal to secure a 2-1 win for the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team against Houston Victoria on Sunday.
Â
The game-winning score came in 89th minute with just more than a minute remaining in the game. Kirkpatrick (San Antonio, Texas), a sophomore, was set up by
Kelly Lochte (Seguin, Texas). The goal came in answer to a Houston Victoria goal by Sheilat Akapo in the 88th minute that looked like it would send the game to overtime.
Â
Kirkpatrick's game winner secured the victory and helped the Bulldogs improve to 9-5-1 on the year (6-2-1 SCAC). The win also extended the Bulldogs' unbeaten streak to four games.
Â
Kirkpatrick didn't wait long to break open the scoring, finding the back of the net in just the 11th minute to give the Bulldogs the lead.
Â
With two more goals Sunday, Kirkpatrick continues her impressive run of form having scored four goals in the last two matches. She has now found the back of the net 17 times on the year. She came into Sunday leading the conference in goals.
Â
Texas Lutheran was outshot in the game 17-11, but shots on goal were much closer, with Houston Victoria holding just a slight 7-6 advantage.
Â
Devin Crump (Texas City, Texas) got her first start of the season in goal for the Bulldogs after coming back from injury. She made six saves on the day and allowed just the one goal.
Â
Texas Lutheran will get back into the conference grin next weekend with its final two home games of the regular season. The Bulldogs will host No. 3 Trinity at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.
