Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Beck's late goal pushes Women's Soccer to 1-1 draw

SEGUIN â€" The Texas Lutheran women's soccer team battled back from an early deficit and managed to play Austin College to a 1-1 draw on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Gustafson Field.

Jaqueline Beck (Carlsbad, Calif.) played the hero the Bulldogs on Sunday after picking a great time to score her first collegiate goal. The freshman midfielder scored the equalizer in the 74th minute off a corner kick taken by Courtney Farmer (Austin, Texas). Farmer's service into the box took a bounce off a body and landed at the feet of Beck, who ripped a shot to the top corner to pull the Bulldogs to equal footing.

With the draw, the Bulldogs' record moved to 7-5-1 on the year and 5-2-1 in SCAC play. The result was a crucial one with Austin College just a game behind the Bulldogs in the conference standings. Texas Lutheran came into Sunday tied with Southwestern for second.

The game's first goal was scored by the 'Roos and it came early. Lauren Scott found the back of the net in the eighth minute of action off an assist by Mandi Sherwood.

After Beck's score tied the game up, both teams had a few chances late but neither squad could push one through for the win.

The Bulldogs were outshot by the 'Roos on Sunday 25-15, but the shots on goal were much closer with Austin College holding just a 9-7 advantage.

Freshman Erin Rose (San Antonio, Texas) made eight saves on the day and did her best to keep Texas Lutheran in the game despite Austin College holding much of the possession.

The Bulldogs will continue SCAC play next weekend as the hunt for the top conference spots heats up. There are just four conference games remaining with the next one coming on the road against Dallas at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18.
