KERRVILLE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's soccer shut out Schreiner, 3-0, at Mountaineer Soccer Field in Kerrville on Thursday night.
For the second straight game, a freshman scored an early goal to put the Bulldogs ahead as a TLU corner led to a ninth minute goal from
Alejandra Lopez (El Paso/Eastwood) for the first goal of her collegiate career.
TLU scored two more first half goals to put the game away. Sophomore
Makenzie Ivie (Portland/Gregory-Portland) scored her first collegiate goal scoring on a breakaway set up by an assist from Lopez. Freshman
Naiema Almaraz (Danbury/Angleton) scored her second goal in as many matches, taking a pass from
Caitlin Roach (Houston/Manvel) to work through the Mountaineers to score a physical and gritty final goal for the Bulldogs on Thursday. With the goal, Almaraz becomes the first TLU freshman to score in their first two collegiate games since at least 2013.
TLU goalkeepers
Skylar LeBlanc (League City/Clear Falls) and
Alexis Morrison (Cedar Park/Vista Ridge) split time in-goal to earn the shutout with LeBlanc being credited with the win.
TLU (2-0) will travel to Abilene to face McMurry on Tuesday, September 8 at 6 PM. The match will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
