SEGUIN, Texas -- Junior Aliyah Fonseca (Harlingen/Harlingen South) netted her third career brace to guide Texas Lutheran women's soccer to a 3-1 victory over East Texas Baptist on Thursday night at Gustafson Field.

With the victory, Texas Lutheran improved to 5-0 on the season, improving their program record start to the 2026 season, while East Texas Baptist dropped to 3-2 on the season. Also with the win, Kerwin Johnson earned his 50th career victory at TLU - moving into third in program history in career wins, passing Tony Tommasi (49 wins, 2001-05).

After an early barrage of shots, Natalia Cortez (Edinburg/Robert Vela) found Fonseca to get the Bulldogs on the board in the 32nd minute. 

Despite a 16-1 shot advantage, the 1-0 score is where the scoreboard remained after the opening 45 minutes.

Following a handball in the box, Madison Herrera (San Antonio/Madison) notched her second goal in as many matches in the 51st minute on a penalty kick, stretching TLU's led to 2-0. Just five minutes later, Fonseca completed her brace by speeding past the Tiger defense and nailing a shot from just outside the box.

Despite a dominant performance that saw the Bulldogs have possession for nearly 70% of the match, the Tigers didn't lay down as they fought back to avoid the shutout with a goal in the 62nd minute.

Sophomore Alexis Morrison (Cedar Park/Vista Ridge) and junior Skylar LeBlanc (League City/Clear Falls) split time in goal for Texas Lutheran with both making a save in the victory.

Texas Lutheran had 17 corners on Thursday, the third most in a single-match in program history, and outshot the Tigers 33-5 with a 17-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Texas Lutheran will have a quick turnaround as they return to the pitch again against Howard Payne on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 PM at Gustafson Field.The match will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
